Weekend
Backpacking Trips
In the Spring & Fall
Trip Details
-
Backpacking trips start on Saturday morning at West Point on the Eno Park in Durham (where you will leave your car).
-
We will hike two days and camp for one night at a hike-in campsite, and end our trip Sunday after lunch (back at West Point on the Eno Park).
-
The route we cover is not a loop or out-and-back trail. We will shuttle to our start point and hike continuously towards our end point.
-
We will cover 7-10 miles per day on moderately easy terrain - mostly flat footpaths through wooded areas along the Eno River and Falls Lake.
-
Groups are limited to 5 hikers plus guide.
-
Small World Backpackers will provide essential backpacking equipment including: a lightweight backpacking tent, sleeping bag, foam cell sleeping pad, and pack.
-
We will provide water, meals for lunch and dinner Saturday, breakfast and lunch Sunday, and various snacks and goodies.
-
You will be responsible for bringing your own personal items including: waterproof hiking shoes or boots, rain gear, flashlights, etc. (We will send you a list of recommended personal items when you sign up).
-
We will hike rain or shine! Hiking and camping in the rain can be a beautiful experience, and certainly a learning one! (see cancellation details in the case of extreme weather).
Age & Ability Requirements
-
All participants must be willing and able to hike up to 10 miles per day, carry a pack for that distance weighing up to 25% of their bodyweight, and camp outdoors in sometimes uncomfortable conditions.
-
This trip is restricted to participants aged 13 years an older; minors ages 13-17 must be accompanied by an adult and have written permission from a parent or guardian.
General Policies
-
We follow the pack it in, pack it out policy - no littering.
-
Firearms are not permitted.
-
Bookings must be made at least one week in advance of the trip start date.
-
Pets cannot be accommodated at this time.
Safety & Trip Cancellation
-
As mentioned, we will hike rain or shine! That being said, we may cancel in the case of dangerous weather - extreme storms or flooding (a lot of our route is in a flood plain) - or other unforeseen circumstances. You will be refunded 100% of your payment.
-
If you need to cancel your reservation please let us know as soon as possible so that someone else may take your spot.
-
If you cancel more than two weeks prior to the start date for any reason, you will be issued a full refund. If you need to cancel within two weeks of the start date you will be issued an 80% refund (minus a small booking fee in both cases).
-
There is inherent risk involved in hiking and camping outdoors and all participants must sign a release waiver prior to beginning the trip (which will be emailed when you sign up). Waivers for minors must be signed by a parent or legal guardian.
-
For everyone's safety in the case of an emergency your guide will be Wilderness First Responder Certified through NOLS and focus on prevention through safe hiking and camping practices.
